What I Treat/What to Expect
The short answer is I treat everything. Because acupuncture is about bringing things into balance, it's good for everything. It will also make you feel calmer, more peaceful, more able to handle whatever is going on, and that ALWAYS makes any issue feel better.
The long answer (OK, the above answer was a little long, but bear with me) is that I am a general practitioner, with areas that I have specialized training in and several areas where I refer out to other practitioners.
For things that acupuncture is good for, see my All About Acupuncture page.
I have specialized training in
-pain (any kind)
-stress
-back/neck/shoulder pain and mobility issues
-headaches, migraines
-emotional issues (including depression, anxiety, emotional pain)
-sports injuries/trauma (acupuncture is SUPERB for sports injuries and car accident trauma)
-pediatric acupuncture (yes! I can treat kids)
-fatigue (including CFS/Fibromyalgia)
-PTSD
-women's issues
-treating parents of children with special needs
-general wellness
-digestive issues (reflux, stomach ache, loose bowels, constipation)
-anger/irritability
I do not treat the following conditions. I can refer you to a practitioner who does:
-smoking cessation
-IVF support protocols
-childhood ADHD
What to Expect
The first appointment will take 2-2.5 hours. I will take a comprehensive health, emotional, and physical history for the first hour, and you will have your first treatment for the second hour. Follow up appointments are generally an hour.
I ask my patients to plan on 4 once a week sessions, and then we space out the treatments depending on how you are responding to the treatments. In my experience, by having a weekly treatment for four weeks, you will notice improvement faster.
I also counsel you on nutrition, exercise, relaxation techniques and other lifestyle changes that will help you take charge of your life. My goal is to help you help yourself, so you can live a life that is full of ease and truly thrive.
The needles are one-time use, disposable, sterile needles. There is no risk of transmission of any disease. They might pinch or tingle, but they rarely hurt. They are nothing like the needles doctors use!
